The Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Melonia (also known as the Speaker of Parliament) is an electable position for the leader of Parliament meetings in the Republic of Melonia. Their duties are to lead parliament meetings, keep the meetings orderly as per the Rules of Parliament, and cast tie-breaking votes.
History
Position as powers of Vice Mayor/Prime Minister (May 31, 2022-August 21,2022)
Under the original constitution of the City of Melonia, the Prime Minister (formerly known as the Vice Mayor) would lead the parliament meetings. In a later constitutional amendment, the President (formerly known as the Mayor) could lead the meetings under emergency meetings.
Evolution to Speaker of Parliament (August 21, 2022-Present)
The new constitution of the Republic of Melonia established the position of Speaker of Parliament. However, no one was elected as Speaker until January 20, 2023. In the meantime, as a solution during the Parliament meetings, the Prime Minister would act as the Speaker of the Parliament.
lainuel became the first Speaker of Parliament in Melonia history, being elected on January 20, 2023 in the special Speaker election.
